Can NOT connect to some Cognex cameras from insight - RobertP - 10-12-2025

Hello,

I have Ewon cosy+.

If I connect to Ewon through eCatcher, I am able to get access to the PLC, DMC checkers, or robots. However, I have a problem, I cannot connect to some Cognex cameras. I have tried to create an Explorer host table or a remote subnet, and thanks to that I can see the cameras, but when I try to connect to them, it takes a while and in the end I get a connection error.

The remote subnet (or Explorer host table) is working because I can see the cameras, but I am not able to connect to them. I have one machine with 12 cameras, and I am able to connect to 7 of them, but the rest have the same problem with connecting. The problem is not on one type of camera only.

Can someone help me with this problem?

Hello, what type of connection is the EWON using for the WAN port? Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 4G?
Perhaps you're testing with Ethernet?
I think it might be a bandwidth issue causing a timeout.

Hello, I am using Ethernet for connection to the internet and to the machine.
But if I had problem with timeout cused by bandwidth then I could not connect to any camera right?
On one machine I have around 10 cameras and I can connect to 6 or 7 of them and the rest of them (4 or 3) I can not reach.

Are they the same model, with the same configuration?

RE: Can NOT connect to some Cognex cameras from insight - RobertP - 12-01-2026

On the machine with 10 cameras it is one type of camera from cognex, type 7905C.
I assume that they have same configuration (since one company did this machine for us, but I am not  100 % sure).
One another machine I have camera from cognex type 8505CP, other machine 8402C.
I did try to connect with the cognex but the response time is really long and their first response did not help. I assume that the problem is on the camera side but I am not sure what is causing that. Or what can I change to make it work.

I think you're limited by your WAN connection to perform your operation (100 Mbps from the EWON or the available bandwidth on your internet connection). The solution would be to have a local PC on the same network with your software installed and access it remotely.

If the problem stemmed from the EWON configuration, you wouldn't have it working on all the cameras.

You could use the user interface as a last resort, or a web browser. See what access you have via the web interface: http://IP_OF_CAMERA

Is it possible to find out how fast is my connection on WAN? The solution with the PC on same network is now my way of doing this, but I wanted to have multiple choices for connection if I need it.

It's a 10/100 Mbps interface, not 10/100/1000 Mbps.

The easiest way would be to run a speed test (https://www.speedtest.net/fr) of the internet connections on your local and remote systems (where your personal PC is located). It all depends on your firewall configuration and what it allows, and whether you can add rules.

Alternatively, you could try transferring a big file (zip,rar,7zip,tar) betwin on your work computer and PC of the system.
